Phase One: People  |  Step Six: Tribes

What tribes are you in, with or without realising it?

Think about identity, nationality, ethnic heritage, geographical region, hometown.

How about your social strata and level of education you shared with others?

Do you have a gender identity, orientation identity, or something similar?

Might you be in a sub-culture?

What about your age bracket and political affiliation?

What labels might people use to identify you:
like ‘traveller’, ‘executive’, ‘clubber’, ‘party animal’, ‘rebel’, ‘countryside’,
cosmopolitan’, etc?

Do you have a blend of tribes, for example both surfer and IT geek?

How much comfort do you get from having a tribe?

Are you comfortable when dressed up for the wrong tribe?
(eg. suited among beach-bums, or looking cosmically astral among earnest empirical thinkers)

Do tribes allow you to engage strangers who look like they fit the tribe?
Is it reassuring to hear your opinions reflected by other tribe members?

Which tribes align with which tribes? Which tribes oppose other tribes?
Why do tribes sometimes have contempt for other tribes? Should any really?

Have you ever really tried to get in the shoes of someone
who is outside of your tribe looking in?

What do people mean by relativism and perspective?
Is it a gift or curse to see and accept the wide differences in perspective?

Here you will find life coaching guidance for free, as scaffolded prompts for chats, based on a careful merger of the 'Nine Boxes' (Susan Jeffers of ‘Feel the Fear…’ fame), Bloom’s Taxonomy of Thinking, the Circles of Concern (popularised by Covey’s ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective People’) and the Socratic Method (as repackaged by Simon Sinek's 'Start With Why' and Francesca Gino's 'The Power of Why' which sit with the practice of Cartesian Doubt).
